£2.5 million plan for new RSPCA animal shelter in Stroud Empty £2.5 million plan for new RSPCA animal shelter in Stroud

PET lovers are being asked to dig deep to help raise the £2.5million needed for a purpose-built RSPCA animal shelter near Stroud.
The independent South Cotswold branch of the charity has just launched a fund raising appeal for the money to develop the flagship home for stray dogs, cats and small furries between Cam and Cambridge.
The branch, which will not receive any financial help from the national RSPCA for the project, already owned the site at disused Beechmeadow Farm and had gained planning permission for the home, its spokeswoman Jodie Thomson said.
“The home will occupy a six acre site,” she said. “The Cotswold Dogs and Cats Home will enable the charity to care for around 750 vulnerable animals from within Gloucestershire annually.”
At present the branch uses private boarding to re-home animals.
But Ms Thomson said that offered only limited capacity which had restricted the RSPCA’s ability to take in animals in the area.
“The new centre would completely change the way the branch works and will increase the number of animals within the local community it can help,” she said.
“Once built the home will benefit the entire community for generations to come, so we hope people will be willing to give up just a small amount of their time to contribute to this exciting and worthwhile project.”
Animal lovers could become project champions by supporting the appeal through raising funds.
Ms Thomson said: “We are seeking individuals and groups who would be willing to help us with this amazing project.
“Raising the £2.5million is a big task but we have a fantastic local community and really need all our animal lovers to get behind the project whether its volunteering at a large event, holding a coffee morning, running a marathon or sitting in a bath of baked beans we’d love to hear from them.”

And no doubt complete with its own execution chamber ....

Why would they pay for it when they know some other mug will?

£2.5 million plan for new RSPCA animal shelter in Stroud Empty Animal Welfare V Prosecutions

Post  millie1* Tue Mar 18, 2014 11:39 am

This is clearly another example of putting pursuing prosecution above animal welfare. They spend £Millions on chasing and persecuting people and destroying their animals (after running up £000's in costs each). Surely the centre can pay for itself if they fill it with our 'stolen' animals and then charge us for keeping them there!

I guess they would have liked the 30K costs to go towards it that they tried to get me on!

They also have a farm that they use at Hesters Way in Gloucester and you should see it  Shocked  The farm poses as a cattery, but is run by a Mr and Mrs Theyer who charge the RSPCA plenty.
