Community Service Interview Empty Community Service Interview

Post  Candcane Thu Apr 03, 2014 12:44 pm

I guess any new visitors we may have on here may find it helpful if other aspects of cases etc are posted so I'm starting this one.

As most of you know I've been ordered to serve 200 unpaid hours of community service. My interview was today.

The lady I dealt with who is now known as my Offending Officer was a really lovely lady. She asked about the charges and I told her briefly my thoughts. I made her aware that my case is going into appeal too.

Anyway, my placement in at a recycling centre not too far away from my home and I start next week. Basically all the items that are two good to get thrown away are placed in a section of the centre for sale. The proceeds go to the Shakespeare Charity.

The rules are:

If you don't turn up you go back to Court
No mobile phones - unless it's lunchtime.
Take a packed lunch as you are not allowed to leave site within your allocated hours.
Let someone know ASAP if you are ill and can't attend.
You can work any extra hours you like over your allocated hours

To be honest, the Probation people seem very nice and non judgemental.

It isn`t any ones place to judge you.
Good luck with the placement, it doesn`t sound to bad except for the no wages bit.
What does NW think of your decision to appeal?

Nigel is happy for the appeal to go ahead as he too thought that the decision made was way over the top.
I'm hoping that we will hear from the Court soon and that the disqualification will get suspended until after the appeal.

It all sounded way over the top to me, and you were like me...I sensed that the magistrates were totally pro-RSPCA. I had to see a probation officer...I asked them what was the purpose? The only purpose seemed to me that it was another £420 on the costs  Mad  oh no, they said, it is to make sure that you get a FAIR and APPROPRIATE sentence. My grandmother's arse. Also they told me that I would quite likely have to wear an electronic tag and when I asked why, apparently it would stop me re-offending. I said an electronic tag was not an option and the silly probation officer (jobs for the girls) said in that case they would quite likely give me 12 weeks in jail. And the useless barrister who turned up FIVE hours late for my final hearing said that an electronic tag was very reasonable...let me out. So I said no, I would go for the jail sentence as I would be out in a month, all over and done with, no tag, no sorting pissy knickers in a charity shop, plus I could write a good story about the whole episode. But they made me do the 160 hours slave labour.

Community Service Interview Empty Community Service (aka Slave Labour)

Post  Trilby Bee Sat Apr 05, 2014 9:06 am

A friend of mine got community service for drunk driving too...only 80 hours...plus a piddling £80 fine. They (drunk drivers) only ever get about half of what the RSPCA 'offenders' get. She was twice over the limit and could have killed someone and herself and passenger. But I had to see a useless dopey probation officer so that I got a sentence which reflected the 'seriousness' of my crime (horse had lice). I got 160 hours sorting pissy knickers in a 'charity starts at home' shop...candcane got 200 hours (!!!). I think the maximum they can give is about 240 hours. Bet you don't get much for benefit fraud...and fiddling your expenses if you are an MP. There's one in the news right now who fiddled her mortgage but bet she won't get any community service to do.
Mine was not an 'offending officer' (which makes it sound as tho' she was the offender); her title was Offender Manager!!  She was a cow. And Candcane, if your slave labour is connected to a 'charity', just watch how much they fiddle, how much they take themselves rather than sell via the charity. I was shocked. The managers of the charities must sell a fair bit on eBay IMO. Charity starts at home must be their motto.

Good luck with it anyway...and with the appeal. Smile
