RSPCA defends itself after horse dies from neglect. Empty RSPCA defends itself after horse dies from neglect.

Questions are being asked of the RSPCA after a chestnut mare that a charity rescued from a back garden in Hailsham had to be put down.

Both the RSPCA and Rainbow Bridge Equine Rescue were made aware there was a horse tied to the patio of a house in London Road, but at the time, its condition was healthy.

However, as the weeks passed, it started to rapidly lose weight and was noticed to be eating its own faeces in order to avoid starving to death.

Rainbow Bridge stepped in and took the horse, which they named Maisie, into their care. However, despite their best efforts, it was obvious her suffering was too much to bear and she was put to sleep.

A statement from the RSPCA said, “We shared concerns about her welfare and are very sorry to hear the upsetting news that she has died. The conditions in which she was kept were not ideal, but she was being fed, given fresh water and there was grazing available.

“We made regular visits to check on her welfare since concerns were first raised to us.

“We visited the site at the end of April after being told she was underweight but the horse was covered in a rug and we were unable to lawfully gain access to the property to check properly.

“We returned shortly afterwards to try again, but found the horse had already been removed. It is illegal for us to enter private property without permission. The RSPCA has to work within the law at all times and can only remove animals if the law allows us .

“The country is currently in the grip of a horse crisis with the RSPCA and other horse welfare charities struggling to cope with the numbers of abandoned, neglected and abused horses. We are stretched to breaking point with about 125 places at our equine centres but more than 800 horses in our care. We are also calling for better enforcement of legislation surrounding identification so we can trace the owners of neglected or mistreated horses.”

RSPCA defends itself after horse dies from neglect. Empty RSPCA Defends Itself After Horse Dies From Neglect

What a strange story...'the weeks passed and the mare deteriorated'; i think for weeks you need to read ''months''. I see it was the rescue which eventually took the mare as RSPCA had decided there was nothing wrong. And as for them saying they could not trespass on private property...ROFL!!! They steal the majority of animals by trespassing. When they stole my mare, they did not request my permission to go and get her (and I was the leaseholder). And to say there was grazing available??? Most patios I have seen have been covered in, er, paving stones.  Lying ratbags!!!

RSPCA lying thro' their teeth to get themselves off the hook ..  as per usual.  And it does NOT say that they prosecuted anyone for effectively starving the mare to death?  I have  feeling this area is covered by the cow who stole my mare, but cannot be sure. She would not wait for an invitation to grab the horse, depending of course on who the owner was.

When is Stephen Wooler due to publish the results of his survey? And do we yet know who is replacing Ghastly Grant? Evil or Very Mad

T. None of the hierarchy have been replaced yet.
What`s the name of the `cow` that took your horse?

I'm keen to see the results too, millie1*, thought they might be available by now. Sure when CC contacted him after her  nightmare result, that he said something to the effect that it was 'getting near the end', which sort of made me think he was going to be ready more quickly than we expected (ie before end May). I may have misinterpreted what was meant.

RSPCA defends itself after horse dies from neglect. Empty reply from Mr wooler

Hi got reply from Mr Wooler - he says more strands of info than expected at outset - is at drafting stage but doesnt want to commit to publish date - not sure who will have access to published material - will RSPCA release, will contributors be party to results?? I dont know - RSPCA are supposed to be paying for the review so its their material.

Well, don't k now what to make of that...if the results go only to RSPCA, then there is nothing to stop them publishing ONLY the bits of it which they want us (the public) to see, ie the bits which MAY show them in a favourable light. I said when I wrote to him that they had a clever way of ''lying by omission''. EG the Gestapo officer who stole my mare said on her statement that ''I had shown her an empty wormer syringe which I said had been administered to the mare a week before''. What she did not add was that I also showed her the receipt with my name and address on it (I had bought it online) and nor did she mention that the faecal egg count (for worms) came back as negative, meaning that yes, she had been recently wormed. NO...she just left it that I said I had wormed her, leaving it to the reader's imagination as to whether or not I might be lying.

I had foolishly thought that it had been comissioned because so many people had expressed concern at the way they ran their affairs and this was going to be an independent and HONEST appraisal. Now I am beginning to wonder. My guess is that we will only see what RSPCA wants us to see...I may be wrong.  Evil or Very Mad ...but we all know what lying crabs they are.
